Each month, we feature one of our birds—sharing a bit about the breed, their personality, and the beautiful eggs they provide. Our birds are raised with care, space, and respect, and each one brings something unique to the farm.

Bird of the Month: Foghorn Leghorn

(“Steel Toe Boots”)

Foghorn Leghorn—better known around the farm as Steel Toe Boots—is our resident rooster and unmistakable presence at Tenelach Tuathanas.

He joined us in August 2025 from Murray McMurray Hatchery, and from the start, he carried himself like he had something to prove. Tall, watchful, and just a little theatrical, he’s earned his nickname honestly—he likes to put on a show when I’m nearby.

There’s a rhythm to him. The strut, the posture, the watchful pause. It’s not just for display—it’s instinct. A good rooster keeps order, scans for trouble, and reminds the flock that someone is paying attention.

Steel Toe Boots is part guardian, part performer, and fully committed to his role. Around here, he doesn’t just live on the farm—he defines a piece of it.
